Lobsey’s performance at Trans-Tasman wins Sportsperson vote

FOR Grafton's Matt Lobsey, the chance to represent Australia Over-35s at the Trans-Tasman Masters Hockey Tournament in Melbourne was a privilege.

It was also a rare opportunity that he grabbed with both hands, featuring heavily with three goals in the side's 10-1, 11-1 and 12-2 victories over New Zealand and second overall in the Players' Player votes.

"To be picked in the team was very exciting and a great honour," Lobsey said.

"I haven't represented my nation since Australian Universities in the late '90s. To get another opportunity was a great inspiration that drove me throughout the summer to get over injury and get fit.

"To be with a bunch of hockey heads of the same age and a part of that team was a privilege.

"The mentality of masters is enjoyable because everybody's juggling family and work commitments and their own bodies, so everybody's really committed and wants to be there."
