Award-winning food producer seeks local beetroots
CLARENCE Valley fine food producer Peter Nicholson believes there is one more finishing touch he can make to a product that has already won him five national awards.
Four times at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and once at the Royal Hobart Show the judges of have rated his beetroot finishing vinegar the best in the country.
But the owner of Yamba-based provedore Nicholson Fine Foods believes he can improve the product with the help of a local gardener.
"I've been looking for a local grower to supply me with about 25kg of beetroots every three months or so," Mr Nicholson said.
"I've put out several calls on Facebook, but so far haven't got any takers."
Mr Nicholson said he was looking more for a green-thumb gardener more than a grower.
"For the amount I'm looking for it would more suit a pensioner who is keen on his gardening," he said.
He said he needs beetroots weighing between 150g and 200g, so they would average about six or seven to the kilogram.
"That would mean someone growing around 150 to supply me," he said.
"I would really love to connect with someone who is passionate about growing great food."
Nicholson Fine Foods loves to champion local food and is an enthusiastic user of one of the Clarence Valley's iconic crops, sugar.
