Local Farm Fresh buys out Big River Milk; could be more jobs

LOCAL Farm Fresh has taken over the manufacture and distribution of Big River Milk.

The change of ownership after two years of operation at the Big River Dairy at Southgate will see an expansion of the business and increased employment opportunities.

Local Farm Fresh is a Coffs Harbour based fresh food home delivery service and was seeking to secure its milk supply chain and found the opportunity to take over the business as a perfect fit.

Rod and Jo Madden will continue to supply milk to the factory. The sale was finalized earlier this month and the new owners have been busy getting to understand the business and starting to implement their own systems and processes.

"Rod and Jo have done a remarkable job establishing a factory and developing a market for their milk," Local Farm Fresh representative Peter Watt said. "This has seen the product being distributed through Coles, a number of independent grocers as well as cafes and restaurants like Heart and Soul and Austin and Co in Grafton.

"We have some big plans for the future and we would like to see a doubling of the current capacity within 12 months, this growth we believe will be in the café and restaurant sector as Big River Milk is ideal for discerning coffee buyers.

"We have engaged five staff to support the business and to get us prepared for some rapid growth."

Big River Milk prides itself on being an award winning product with a range of medals from the Brisbane show two years in a row.

"While medals are one thing, it is superior customer service with an award winning product that is going to bring us success in the future," Mr Watt said.

Local Farm Fresh believes in local, fresh, healthy food that is easy to obtain and supports local farmers and food producers as well as the community.

"When the opportunity came up to really show what we are about and to also increase the number of people employed we decided to invest and make it work," Mr Watt said.

Hopefully the local community will see the benefit of a locally produced product and will continue to buy Big River Milk.
