Local man develops an app to check bus times

WAITING by the side of the road, unsure whether or not your bus has gone past, could soon become a thing of the past.

A North Coast local has invented a new real-time smartphone app that uses GPS technology to track buses on major routes on the Coffs Coast.

Coffs Harbour bus driver Steve Young said the Transportme service could be a particular benefit for students on the school bus run.

"It will be great for parents or carers knowing where the bus is," he said.

The app is the brainchild of Naomi Geurts and Coffs Coast resident Nigel Tooth.

Nigel got in contact with development company Appster, which helped him build the programming behind the app.

He said plans were also under way to release a Transportme smart card.

This will mean children can tap on and off the bus for parents to be able to track their movements via the app.

Transportme is available as a free download from the Apple App Store.
