Lower Clarence secure two points following forfeit

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Lower Clarence Magpies have been given a much-needed reprieve ahead of the NRRRL Under 18s finals in two weeks with competition cellar-dwellers Northern United forfeiting today's clash.

The Magpies, who are coming off a bruising finals prelude against the Ballina Seagulls, will utilise the weekend to rest up their burgeoning stars but are still expected to make the trip up to Cabarita to support senior club Tweed Coast Raiders in reserves and first grade.

While the guaranteed two points is helpful for the Magpies to hold on to their top three spot, a match-up with the lacklustre Dirrawongs could have been helpful for the Magpies' points differential.

With a top-of-the-table clash between the Seagulls and Cudgen Hornets set for Ned Byrne Oval on Sunday, the Magpies had a chance to leapfrog last week's opponents.

The Lower Clarence contingent will now head back to the training paddock to refocus for their final- round clash with the Kyogle Turkeys next weekend.

The Turkeys sit outside the top five but should not be written off at any stage.
