Lucas brothers to face-off in Tahs versus Reds showdown

NEW South Wales scrumhalf Matt Lucas will hope to heap some more pressure on his big brother, Queensland Reds utility back Ben, tonight.

Matt will make his first start for the Tahs in the all-Aussie showdown against the Rebels in Melbourne, and a win would keep the Queenslanders looking over their shoulders.

On the Australian conference ladder the Tahs are only six points behind the Reds - who play the Stormers in Cape Town tomorrow - and the Sydneysiders also have a game in hand.

A victory would also continue the Waratahs dominance over the Rebels, winning all five games between the sides.

But Matt, 21, and in his first season with the Tahs, is not thinking about making life difficult for his brother and his Queensland teammates - he's just focused on doing his job tonight, and doing it well.

The former Australian Sevens representative, who came off the bench in the Waratahs impressive 28-22 win against the Brumbies in Sydney last week, hopes to provide the ammunition in attack.

"I'm just thinking about being switched on from the start and ensuring my 'bread and butter skills' - passing to forwards and backs - is on, making sure no one's having to slow down," he said.

"If I can do that, I will give the us every chance to get on the front foot."

Bryce Hegarty will start at five-eighth in place of the injured James O'Connor for the Rebels.

Lock Luke Jones and utility back Tom English yesterday re-signed with the Rebels for a further three Super Rugby seasons.
