Luke McGregor’s “luke warm” look at sex

LUKE McGregor is on a mission to become better at sex, and dispel the taboos around the subject while he's at it.

The Tasmanian-born comedian stars in the ABC's new docu-comedy Luke Warm Sex.

The six-part series follows McGregor's efforts to become more comfortable in his own skin and tackle his own awkwardness about intimacy.

"It was a confronting series," he tells APN. "A lot of it was embarrassing, well, all of it was embarrassing really."

McGregor strips down, literally and emotionally, in the hope he can inspire others who share his fears about "this thing we're supposed to know how to do".

"The show is about my fears and insecurities as much as it is about techniques," he says.

"Hopefully that means it's not just for straight males. We wanted to tackle issues of body image, because everyone's got those."

The 34-year-old's honesty shines through even in the most confronting situations as he gets naked with nudists, offers free kisses at a kissing booth in busy Melbourne and attends a cuddle party.

The result is a viewing experience that is equal parts educational, heart-warming and hilarious.

"The team I was filming with was great. We had a pact if there was anything I didn't want to do that I didn't have to do it," he says.

"Having the cameras with me almost made me braver because I knew I had a reason to do these things. If I was just doing it in my own life maybe I wouldn't do it."

McGregor said the experience had made him a more confident person.

"There were periods where I noticed little changes in my own life in how I talked to people," he says. "When we finished filming I did feel like I'd changed as a person. I didn't think I was the king of sex or anything, but I wasn't' afraid of it."

Luke Warm Sex premieres on Wednesday at 9pm on ABC1.
