Maclean rowers retain state title

LAST year they lost many of their senior rowers.

But Maclean High School’s class of 2011 proved more than a match at the New South Wales Combined High Schools Rowing Regatta on the Clarence River at Grafton earlier this month.

Facing 20 other schools, Maclean’s talented and dedicated juniors earned enough points for the school to retain the state rowing championship in a close finish.

Maclean won the girls’ point score and came second in the boys’ division.

Rachael Anderson capped a successful season, earning the trophy for champion female rower at the regatta.

Stand-out performers were Racheal Anderson, Chianna Dane and Matt Hardman, all of whom won state titles in their individual events.

Maclean crews where victorious in several of the double and quad finals, with special mention to the “Two Kates”, Bolton and Thompson, who upstaged more fancied rivals to win the under-15 double.

Congratulations to all our rowers, but especially to our coaches and the many parents who supported the students over the two-day event.

Thanks to the Grafton High team, led by Andrew and Kerri Tarrant, for running a successful and enjoyable regatta.
