Maclean lights up for Christmas

THE streets of Maclean are spirited with Christmas thanks to the Greater Maclean Community Action Group.

"We had heard lots of conversation asking what happened to the Christmas spirit in Maclean, so we decided to something about it,” president Ian McLennan said.

The group was supported by Skye Coffee Lounge, Maclean Lions Club, John Snape Motors, CWA, Home Timber and Hardware along with the the op shops who have come to the rescue with decorations for the pine tree outside the CWA rooms.

"We've also done some lights and decorations so it glows at night time, as well as the little lollipop type decoration that so many of us remember from years ago,” Mr McLennan said.

"We really want to build on it and try to get some community spirit into the town.”

Mr McLennan said the group was looking to present a Christmas Eve carols, and maybe even organise a visit from the man in red next year.

"Christmas is about many different things to different people, but decorating River Street means a lot to the sons and daughters of our town returning for Christmas to visit family and friends, not to mention the fantasy of our young people who will have life long memories as do the older generation,” he said.
