Maclean man in critical condition

A 51-year-old Maclean man is in a critical condition at the Gold Coast hospital following a workplace incident at the Maclean cemetery yesterday afternoon between 3.30-4pm

The man, a Clarence Valley Council contractor, was removing an old fence at the time of the incident, said CVC general manager Scott Greensill this morning.

The man is understood to have suffered head injuries but further details were not yet available.

Mr Greensill, who'd met with council staff earlier this morning, said WorkCover investigators were on their way to the site.

He said reports on ABC Radio this morning that a person had fallen from a building were incorrect, as were claims that a concrete block had fallen on the man.

"We have no clear indication of the incident at this stage," Mr Greensill said. "We are still trying to piece it all together."

Asked if machinery was involved, Mr Greensill said he was unsure but that he did not believe so.

He said there was one other employee present at the time and this person was traumatised by the incident.

Mr Greensill said police, along with other emergency authorities, had been notified about the incident as a matter of course.
