Maclean prepares for mayhem
MORE than 750 fans – and hundreds more riders - are expected to flock to Maclean’s Motorcycle Park for Sunday’s Motorcross Madness event.
Hosted by the Maclean Dirt Bike Club, the event is in its second year and pits the region’s best riders against one another in the 12-division competition.
Participation numbers topped 100 last year but that figure is set to be blown away by the 2010 encore.
Maclean president Colin James says nothing can stop the riders from reaching top gear.
“We want to start the year with a bang,” James said.
“Last year we got just over 100 riders and this year we have got over 100 already.
“At the beginning of last year we had 100 members, now we have 220.
“We have gained a lot throughout the year.”
Fans are expected to be the big winners from the day’s ‘excitement and adrenalin’.
Categories include under-4s to over 35s as well as a social class for those who want to join in the fun on the day.
“It’s action-packed,” James said.
“You see people in the crowd watching and then next year they show up because their parents have bought them a bike.
“Our next event (North Coast Motorcross) is bigger but we are working on building Maclean Motorcross Madness to be bigger than that.”
Competitors from Port Macquarie to Gold Coast get involved.
But the jumping castle and giveaways could also prove a distraction.
“There is a lot in store for all the kids,” James said.
“I’d like to see 1000 people turn up.”
The action begins at 8.30am on Sunday and is expected to run until 5pm.
Entry to the Gardiner Rd circuit costs $2 and officials have promised plenty of prizes such as hats, shirts and posters will be handed out on the day.
The next motorcross competition will be held at the North Coast in March.
