Maclean residents still waiting for opening of rehab unit

ON A recent visit to Grafton Base Hospital, I was talking with two patients recently returned from the Ballina Rehab Unit.

They told me that one day while there they counted five patients from Grafton - didn't think to check if there were any patients from the Lower Clarence.

It is a reminder to all of us that the long awaited Rehab Unit at Maclean Hospital is still not yet open. The building was completed at least two years ago.

These two men also lacked family support whilst at Ballina. All of us know that family support is a vital part of any recovery from illness.

Naturally there is a much better chance of that support for Clarence River residents when the Maclean Unit is eventually opened.

We are entitled once more to ask North Coast Area Health Service to redouble their efforts to open the Maclean Rehab Unit as a matter of urgency, and thus provide the service to which Clarence River residents are entitled.
