Maclean rowers medal before storm breaks

ROWING: At the Head of the Clarence regatta the Maclean High School rowers had to face some of the worst conditions with wind, rough water and then a major thunderstorm which left several rowers stranded on Susan Island.

The hail and wind was fierce causing damage to humans, boats and cars. After the hail storm the officials cancelled the rest of the program.

With what races were held the MHS rowers came home with one gold medal after Lachlan Maxwell won his division of the Schoolboys Under 15 single scull.

The school also picked up two bronze medals, one by Stephanie Hutton and Clara Samms in the Championship Schoolgirls Under 17 double scull and also the crew of Ethan Davis, Lachlan Maxwell, Ben Young, Logan Bolton and Rose Roper (cox) in the Championship Schoolboy quad.

Kirilly Maxwell and Kate Behn finish fourth in the Under 17 doubles final.

The rest of the results are for heats only as sadly all the finals were cancelled.

Logan Bolton was third in his heat of the CSB single which would have put him in the final.

In the girls Under 17 single heats Clara Samms, Stephanie Hutton, Kirilly Maxwell and Kate Behn all progressed through to the finals which was a great effort from all girls.

It was a rough introduction for Ashley Luland, April Shannon and Aimee Jeffrey who competed in their first regatta and handled the conditions very well.
