THE Coffs Coast has lost one of its oldest residents, with the passing on Wednesday of Woolgoolga's May Miller.

Mrs Miller was only three months shy of turning 106.

Her great grand daughter Kate Walsh said May will be remembered by her large and very extended family as a very generous woman who lived life to the full.

"Grandma was dearly loved by everyone who knew her and particularly her family," Kate said.

"She was a big supporter of a multitude of charities and until only recently she was very active and fiercely independent."

Mrs Miller moved to Woolgoolga 60 years ago from Orange and found it a perfect place to indulge her passion for lawn bowls.

"Grandma was the first woman in New South Wales to have a bowling green named after her. She loved bowls and the friends she had at the club. I believe the lady members of the Woolgoolga Bowling Club plan on honouring her with a guard of honour at the her funeral next week."

Apart from her longevity Mrs Miller's greatest achievement may be the depth of her family tree which recently stretched into a sixth generation of descendents.

She is survived by three children, 14 grand children, 24 great grand children, 13 great great grand children and one great great great grand child.

"All of us felt very much loved by Grandma. She will be dearly missed," Kate said.

Mrs Miller's funeral will be held at 1.30pm next Wednesday at Woolgoolga's Anglican Church.
