OF ALL the ribbons that were handed out in the pavilion the Maher family collected seven in the art section.

Mother Linda Maher said it was amazing her and daughters Lizzie, Aimee and Helena all walked away with ribbons, especially seeing it was their first Grafton Show.

Helena came second in the portrait category for her portrait of her friend's baby.

"I wasn't expecting to win anything," Helena said.

"I just entered hoping for the best."

The Maher family moved to Grafton two years ago and love the city's diverse arts scene.

"We moved from regional South Australia," Helena said.

"Coming from the outback we used to draw and paint to fill in time."

The art section received record entries this year.

"It was probably because of us," Lind said.
