Man charged over explosives, weapons in Mackay paddock

POLICE  have charged a man following an incident involving explosives in a sugarcane paddock in Mackay.

Around 10.50pm on Saturday night, officers were performing Random Breath Tests on Glenella Connection Road when they will allege a man has performed a u turn as he saw police and drive into a sugarcane paddock.

Police will further allege the man has then dropped a number of items in the paddock before running from police.

A man was located by police a short time later.

A 22-year-old man has been charged with two counts of possession of a dangerous drug and one count each of possession of explosives, possession of weapons and possession of tainted property.

He is due to appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court on Monday.

 

Man assisting police as suspicious items found in paddock

POLICE are on scene in a cane paddock near Fursden Creek where a number of suspicious items were located.

It is believed a 22-year-old man is assisting police with enquiries.

Bomb technicians were called to examine the items, a police spokesman said.

Investigations are ongoing.
