Man faces court for alleged sex meet-up with girl, 14

A 38-year-old Victorian man has been arrested after travelling to Brisbane on Friday evening to engage in sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl he met online.

It is alleged the man had engaged in sexualised chat with a 14-year-old girl during June and July this year. The 14-year-old girl was in reality, a member of the Task Force Argos team.

It is believed that on Friday evening, the man travelled from Victoria to Brisbane with the sole intention of meeting the girl and engaging in sexual activity at a Brisbane hotel.

State Crime Command's Task Force Argos investigators intercepted the man on Friday night at a Brisbane train station. The man was taken into custody.

Investigators searched a Brisbane hotel room and later charged the man with six counts of using the internet to procure a person under sixteen and one count of using a carriage service to groom a child under sixteen.

Victoria Police's Astraea Taskforce assisted with the investigation by executing a search warrant on a Victorian address. They seized four laptop computers, an ipad, hard drives and other computer related items.

The man is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning.
