Truck hits, kills pedestrian

A PEDESTRIAN died after being hit by a truck on the Pacific Highway at Chinderah yesterday afternoon.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokesman said the man was dead when paramedics arrived.

“The truck driver was taken to the Tweed Hospital,” the spokesman said.

The truck driver was believed to be suffering chest pains. A NSW Police media spokesman said the fatality occurred about 3.41pm, opposite the weigh bridge.

“Investigations are continuing,” the spokesman said yesterday.

“Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane of the highway are open,” he said about 5pm.

“Traffic is banked up and delays are expected for some time.”

The Ballina Crash Investigation Unit was at the scene.
