Man fatally struck by car on Pacific Hwy

UPDATE: Police are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car in Coffs Harbour.

About 6.10pm on Sunday evening, emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway near the intersection of Isles Drive, following reports of a pedestrian being hit.

On arrival officers from Ambulance Paramedics treated a 62-year-old man with critical injuries before transporting him to Coffs Harbour Health Campus where he later died.

A crime scene was established and investigated by specialist forensic officers. Initial investigations suggest the man was struck by a white Mitsubishi Outlander travelling south on the Pacific Highway.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 43-year-old woman stopped after the crash. She and her passengers, a man and a child, were not injured. The driver was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus for mandatory blood and urine testing.

The Pacific Highway was closed southbound and traffic diversions put in place as investigations took place.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for anyone that witnessed the collision or has information that may assist to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

EARLIER: A man is in a serious but stable condition after being struck by a vehicle on the Pacific Hwy south near Kiddell Pl, Coffs Harbour this evening.

An ambulance media spokeswoman said paramedics were called at around 6pm and attended to a 36-year-old man at the scene.

The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus.
