UPDATE 2.12PM: Gable Tostee has been charged with murder a week after Kiwi woman Warriena "Rrie" Wright plunged 14 storeys to her death from his Gold Coast apartment balcony.
Gold Coast Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson would not say what evidence had led to the break in the case.
"I can't comment. Now that he's been charged, we're not going to be going into any detail as to the investigation. This is now before the courts and we won't be making any more comment," he told APNZ.
"All we can say at this stage is a 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged and he will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow."
TODAY: Gable Tostee has been taken into police custody over New Zealander Warriena Wright's death but no charges have been laid, Australian media is reporting.
Queensland Police have confirmed a 28-year-old man is currently assisting police with their enquiries into the death of Ms Wright, 26, who died after falling from the balcony of a high-rise apartment complex in Surfers Paradise on August 8.
The investigation has captured the attention of Australian and New Zealand media.
Tostee arrived at the Southport Courthouse in the back of an unmarked police car.
Handcuffed, wearing shorts and a white T-shirt, he was led through a side entrance into the court building, shortly before 12.30pm.
News Limited are reporting Tostee has been charged over the death, although police have told APN that is not the case.
Investigation head Detective Superintendent David Hutchinson denied media reports Tostee had been arrested and charged with murder.
"That's not correct - not correct," he said.
Police would release a statement when there were further developments.
Tostee is reportedly remaining silent after hiring criminal law firm Potts Lawyers.
