Man who played Manuel in Fawlty Towers has died, aged 86

ANDREW Sachs, best known as the man who played Manuel in the comedy hit Fawlty Tours, has died aged 86. 

Sachs was in a care home when he died last week, reports the Standard

He'd been fighting a four-year battle with dementia he'd managed to keep hidden from the public eye.

His widow, Melody, 85, told the press he'd been diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2012, a condition which left him in a wheelchair and unable to speak. 

Sachs was likely best known for his role as Manuel in the 1970s comedy Fawlty Towers with John Cleese and Prunella Scales.

Sach's wife Melody has reportedly been taken into intensive care because of the stress of caring for him.

In a statement, she said "My heart has been broken every day for a long time."

"I never once heard him grumble."
