Martin Place Cenotaph vandalised

GUTLESS vandals have desecrated a Sydney war memorial at a time when the country is mourning the loss of five Australian soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

A brass bayonet at the Cenotaph in Martin Place, where the Anzac dawn service traditionally takes place, was bent over some time last night.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione told reporters today officers had taken fingerprints from the scene were reviewing CCTV footage in the hope of catching the culprits.

When asked if he would consider having security cameras installed over the Cenotaph, Mr Scipione said he was "considering all options".
