Coen waiting for a lung transplant

MARYBOROUGH'S Coen Ashton is now one of about 1600 people across Australia nervously waiting for the phone call to that will give him moments to prepare for a life-saving double lung transplant.

Coen suffers from cystic fibrosis and insulin-dependent diabetes.

He was officially admitted on the transplant list last week after years of waiting.

The Ashton family made the move to Melbourne three weeks ago, to await the transplant which would be performed at Melbourne's Alfred hospital.

Before he faces the surgery however, Coen will fly to Sydney to for the announcement of the national Pride of Australia medal after winning the Child of Courage medal in the Queensland ceremony.

Coen was nominated for the Murray CODD (Coen's Organ Donation Drive) campaign, which saw more than 1000 people sign up to become donors.

Coen jet-skied the length of the Murray River, finishing at the beginning of this year, to raise awareness for the campaign.
