Hickey to put White in a spin
IT’S crunch time for Tucabia White today against a Harwood side eager to push them further down the ladder.
White has slipped to fourth place, three points behind today’s opponents and a loss could jeopardise their semi-final aspirations.
At home Harwood are a tough side and with the withdrawal of several key players Tucabia will be under the pump to come away with the competition points.
“At this stage we will be missing Ray Barnett, Brad Lloyd, Bob McKenzie and Brendan Mitchell who is out injured,” a nervous White captain Chris Adamson said.
“Bob’s absence is a huge blow for the team. It’s an important game for us... you could say it’s a must-win-game.
“There is a bit of pressure there but probably more a case of being disappointed. We have been inconsistent after the Christmas break.”
Most Premier League sides have trouble with quality spin and, according to Adamson, White side is no exception.
“Our main concern is facing their spin bowlers, Matt Young and Peter Hickey. Hickey is hard to get away because he darts the ball in at middle stump,” he said.
Slow bowlers who flight the ball above a batsman’s eyeline make things tricky. This is something Adamson and his side needs to address.
“Our batsmen’s eyes seem to light up, they think they can put the bowler out of the park,” he said.
Adamson said it is paramount they dismiss Harwood’s opening batsman Geoff Simmons cheaply and limit the damage Mark Ensbey and Craig Moran could do lower in the order.Premier League ladder
