McAuley White takes Sailors to town
Hockey Women: McAuley White obliterated the Sailors in their A Grade women match over the weekend 8-0.
McAuley White Captain Angie Day said the team played a really good passing game.
"We scored about five or so minutes in and then everything kept going our way,
"We used the whole field to our advantage," she said.
According to Day, the team played really well together and couldn't pinpoint one player who did better than another.
Sailors coach Graeme Jakins said McAuley White were on fire during their game.
"We were just outplayed, they're very young, very fast," he said about McAuley White.
"We found it difficult to complete.
"They did put pressure on us, however, we weren't capable of defusing that pressure they put on us.
"Probably six of the eight goals were brought about by some very silly mistakes."
While Jakins said the team played better in the second half, they were still unable to defend their position, describing them as too fast, too young and too skilful.
With training on last night, Jakins said he planned to work on how the team can play a smarter game to ensure they don't see the same result again.
"We're going to have a static training session, which really doesn't involve any running, its basically me talking," Jakins said.
The Sailors have two weeks to prepare for their next game, in which Jakins hopes to show the team how to solve the problems they faced in the game against McAuley White.
"You put that game behind you... you work for the next one," Jakins said.
Grafton High Blue defeated Demons Green 5-0 in the other match played on Saturday.
