Meet Flynn McGarry, the "Justin Bieber" of food

HE'S younger than any of the home cooks on MasterChef, but Flynn McGarry is about to put them through their paces.

The American food wunderkind is in Melbourne filming a pressure test for the upcoming eighth season of Ten's cooking show.

At just 17, McGarry is a rising star of the food world and has been dubbed the "Justin Bieber" of American cooking.

"I think it's really just the hair," he told APN.

"I get it; people want to compare me to something familiar. I don't take it as an insult; he's very successful."

He recently hosted a six-month pop-up restaurant in New York's West Village and when he jets out of Melbourne tomorrow he'll travel straight to San Francisco for his next pop-up venue.

A seat at one of his restaurants is one of the hottest tickets in town.

"It's not impossible (to get a ticket) but definitely they go out in a pretty quick amount of time," he said.

"It gives you confidence knowing people are coming to eat."

At the age of 11 he began hosting supper clubs in his parent's living room, charging $160 per person for an eight-course menu.

McGarry plans to open his first permanent restaurant by the time he's 19.
