Memorial contest for longboarders

THE Clarence Head Longboarders will hold its second annual Al Richards Memorial Longboard Contest this Sunday at Turners Beach.

Club representative Gary Nottingham said Al Richards was a founding member of the club who sadly passed away two years ago.

"To honour Al, the club is running a yearly competition in his name," he said.

"The day will be run much like a regular club round, with entries open to all club members.

"Up for grabs again this year will be the Al Richards Memorial Trophy, which last year was won by Phil Blanch, who unfortunately, due to work commitments, won't be able to defend his title this year."

Nottingham said the day would finish with a dinner and presentation at the Yamba Bowling Club from 7pm Sunday.

"So come on down and enjoy a great day of surfing and have a sausage or a cold drink from the barbecue," he said.

"This will no doubt be a hotly contested round - all the competitors will want to see their name on the trophy."

Surfers who wish to compete are asked to sign in by 8.30am for a 9am start.

Get there early as there will be no late entries accepted.
