Memorial ride

SURFERS will descend on Turners Beach this Sunday to honour the memory of former president Alan Richards.

Clarence Head Longboarders Club will host the Alan Richards Memorial Longboard Contest, which they hope to be the first of many.

Publicity officer Gary Nottingham said the competition is open to all club members.

"It will be run much like the regular monthly surf meets," Nottingham said.

Competitors must be signed on by 8:30am, with the first surfers taking to the waves from 9am.

"The contest will be run as an annual event with a perpetual trophy will be awarded to the overall winner on the day," Nottingham said.

"Hopefully we will have great conditions for the surfers and a lot of fun on the day for all the family."

The event will be followed by a presentation dinner at the Yamba Bowling Club from 7pm.
