Men wanted for new netball comp

WE are still very interested in creating a men's division.

So I am putting the call out to the dads to put a team together and join the Grafton High School men in the Saturday competition.

There is still time for this comp to start by May 2.

If you are unsure which club you could play for, please call Fiona on 0419 535 738 who can put you in touch with a delegate.

  •  AVAILABLE for purchase from control for all players are GNA socks, drink bottles, sun visors and headbands.

Also, U for Umpiring books (where the umpire exam questions come from) and rule books are available from control for $12 each.

A coaching clinic will be available for all our junior coaches commencing soon and will run by Wendy Green. More details will be available closer to the date.

It would also be an advantage for all coaches to complete the free online coaching course at the following link:

  •  ALL Netta (5-9s) coaches are required to attend a meeting at the clubhouse on May 2 from 10.30am.

We will be discussing the plan for the Netta competition this year. This will be prior to the commencement of the first day back to netball for all age groups after the Easter break.

  •  A THREE-day netball camp will be held at Lake Ainsworth from April 25-27. It's a live-in camp and the focus will be on netball skill development, fun games and camp activities for junior players aged 10-12.

For more information and how to apply, please visit GNA website. This year the camp will incorporate a coach education program and an umpire training day. The closing date for registrations is Tuesday, April 14. Demand for places in high so be quick to avoid disappointment.

Rep news

ALL rep teams are required to be at the courts this Sunday at 7.30am for team photos. Please be on time.

If you have any questions about this weekend's carnival, please speak with someone in control on Saturday.

We are selling raffle tickets over the weekend with proceeds to go towards the cost of sending the rep girls to state championships. First prize is a Bondi Rescue shirt signed by all the Bondi lifeguards who appear on the show. Cost is $2 each or three for $5.

Umpire news

AN umpire development workshop will be held this Saturday between 4pm and 6.30pm at the courts in Bacon Street. All umpires, new and experienced, can attend, including GNA rep girls.

Stewart Ting from Netball NSW will be conducting an umpiring session on contact and obstruction. The cost is $10 and is a great opportunity for all umpires and players to learn from a National A badged umpire. If you are interested in attending please give names to Marg Hayward in control on Saturday.

An umpires exam will be held on Saturday, May 16, from 10.30am. All players and supporters are welcome to come along to sit the exam.

GNA would like to recruit more adult umpires. Training and support is provided to those just starting out. If you are interested or have questions, please speak with the umpires co-ordinator, Marg Hayward, in control.

An umpires level one course will be held on Saturday, May 23, from 9am to 1pm. All who umpire on Saturdays are required to have completed and received a pass in their umpires theory exam and completed their level one. These courses are also a great opportunity for players to learn more about the game they play. Both the exam and level one are prerequisites if you are interested in obtaining your national badge.

If you would like some help with your umpiring please let Marg know. She and her umpire committee of Kerry and Denise will endeavour to do their best to coach as many umpires as possible. If there are experienced umpires able to assist with coaching, please speak with Marg.

Next meeting is April 27 from 7pm at the clubhouse. All are welcome.

  •  PLEASE be aware this week there is no Saturday competition to make way for the two-day Grafton rep carnival.
