Midnight Oil announce Great Circle 2017 World Tour

MIDNIGHT Oil took to Facebook this morning to launch the news they would be embarking on their first world tour in 15 years.

In the live cross from Sydney Harbour they announced The Great Circle 2017 World Tour would be their biggest since the 1980s and would include 50 gigs across Australia, Brazil, U.S, Canada, Europe and New Zealand.

The band will tour Australia this year from October-November, taking in Alice Springs, Darwin, Kuranda (Cairns), Townsville, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Coffs Harbour, Hunter Valley, Canberra, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Wodonga, Mt Macedon, Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney.

There's a host of big name support acts on the Australian line-up including John Butler Trio, AB Original, Adalita, Apakatjah, Bad//Dreems, Birds Of Tokyo, David Bridie, Ash Grunwald, Irrunytju Band, Jack River, Jedediah, The Jezebels, The Living End, Abbe May, Something For Kate, Spiderbait, Dan Sultan, Urthboy, and Frank Yamma.

When asked what their form was like as the crew are now in their 60s, lead singer Peter Garrett said they had "never felt better, fresher, nastier, sweeter, more energetic."

Full details about the tour are online now.

The band is also releasing three archival box sets including a collection called The Overflow Tank which will contain more than 14 hours of previously unreleased and rare material.

Drummer and vocalist Rob Hirst likened the band to a catalogue act with a string of hits.

"We've got 170-odd songs so far. There's an amazing treasure trove of material to play," Hirst said.

"The greatest thing for us is not just the chemistry in the band... but playing these songs."
