Mind games from Pacquiao ahead of Horn fight

BOXING: World welterweight champ Manny Pacquiao continues to play mind games with Brisbane's world No. 2 Jeff Horn who has been preparing to fight the all-time great at Suncorp Stadium on April 23.

A day after tweeting that his next fight would be in the United Arab Emirates and not Brisbane, Pacquiao has now sent out an online poll asking his fans to vote on who he should fight next.

With the choices between Horn, American Terence Crawford and the British fighters Amir Khan and Kell Brook, Khan won by a knockout.

Forty-five per cent of respondents voted for him, just 4% for the 29-year-old Brisbane schoolteacher.

Horn is in North Queensland on a promotional tour designed to create further interest in the fight at Suncorp Stadium.

In Abu Dhabi, Pacquiao's adviser, Canadian Michael Koncz, who also describes himself as the boxer's marriage counsellor, declared that the fight would be in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai.

Koncz has long challenged the authority of Pacquiao's Las Vegas-based promoter Bob Arum, who has been promoting fights since his first with Muhammad Ali more than half a century ago.

Koncz said that even though Arum is Pacquiao's legal promoter, he has "full authority" to act for the champ and that the fight will be "100% be in the UAE".

"It took us a while to get this deal together," Koncz said.

"There was a lot of confusion whether this is going to happen here in the UAE. I'm here with full authority and power.

"I have been the marriage counsellor for Manny and we have developed a relationship. I'm involved in all aspects of what he does.

"We have executed an agreement in the morning and 100% the fight will be here in the UAE."

With just two months to go until the April 23 fight date to suit American telecasters it seems an awfully short time for anyone else other than Horn to get ready for such a huge bout.

The former world champ Khan reportedly just lost $6 million on a wedding venue development project in his home city of Bolton.
