Minnie nippers fly carnival flag

MINNIE nippers did more than just fly the flag at the North Coast Branch Junior Surf Life Saving Titles – they nearly broke it off.

The event, held at Urunga Beach on Sunday, saw competitors meet a stiff north-easterly breeze blowing.

The courageous crew of Minnie nipper took to on the sand and surf with gusto. The march past was one of the first events on the card and the youngsters from Minnie took out a creditable fourth place, with all of our 11-strong contingent of competitors taking part.

Brittany Hegedus went on the take out the under-12 girls’ beach sprint and beach flag events and the Young clan also dominated the flag pit.

Grace Young taking out the under-8 girls’ flags, Sam Young claiming the under-11 boys’ flags and Zac Young snaring second in the under-9 boys’ flags.

Zac also went on to snatch a third place in the under-9 boys beach sprint.

The water area was a bit of wild place with the north-easterly making for tough going.

However, Hayden Thurtel, Jacob Hegedus and Hannah Brodin all took on the challenge and preformed very well.
