Minute's silence to honour Saxon

ON the anniversary of the death of young Sydney ironman Saxon Bird, competitors, teammates and friends will pause today during competition at the New South Wales Surf Life Saving Championships at Kingscliff.

Today’s competition is dedicated to the memory of the talented young athlete, who was tragically killed on March 19 last year while at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast.

A minute’s silence will be observed at 8am on the beach to honour Saxon.

To honour the memory of the Queenscliff competitor, a perpetual Saxon Bird Trophy will be awarded to the winner of the under-19 surf race tomorrow.

The winner of the under-19 board race will be presented the Jacob Lollback Trophy, named after the Yamba competitor who died in a diving accident in September 2009.
