Misspent retirement

I USED to work hard running my own business.   Half my profits went to the Government, who, living beyond its means with armies of bureaucrats and wasteful programs, destroyed business confidence and undermined the economy.   So bureaucrats now try to compensate for Government incompetence and stimulate the economy by cutting bank interest rates.   Meaning that as a retiree, my banked savings no longer earn enough interest for me to live on, forcing me to spend my capital and go on the pension.   But low bank interest rates have a minor affect on the economy.   Responsible government, living within its means and restoring hope and confidence is needed.   A moral government, based on accountability to a higher authority, and focused, not on itself, but on the wellbeing of the people.   Bill Newton, Yamba
