Mixed bag for local cricketers

BRENDAN Purser and Rohan Hackett have returned to the Clarence Valley after competing with the North Coast Zone cricket side at the NSW Country Colts Cricket Carnival in Maitland last weekend.

The North Coast side started the competition poorly losing its first game against Central Coast by 177 runs, with Purser scoring 17 and Hackett taking 1/37.

Purser starred with the bat in the squad's second match against Southern Zone, scoring 74 runs as North Coast won on first innings.

The competition ended on a sour note for the North Coast side as neither Purser nor Hackett could prevent the team from falling to Illawarra.

“It wasn't that great,” Purser said.

“I threw away my bat a couple of times ... played some silly shots.”
