Mixed event a holiday drawcard BEACH VOLLEYBALL

WHILE Yamba is catering for the swimmers this weekend, if you're less inclined to get your feet wet, head to Minnie Water.

The Wooli-Minnie Water Surf Club is holding their annual mixed beach volleyball tournament on their local sands tomorrow.

Organisers said the success of last year's event prompted the decision to run it a second time in the window between Christmas and New Year .

"We used to hold it in mid-January," Wooli-Minnie Water Surf Club president Paul Gallagher said.

"Last year we changed to an earlier timeslot and it proved to be much more successful.

"Instead of having between 15 and 20 teams, we had 34."

Teams of five (no substitutes) must contain at least two girls, players must be 12 or older and cost per team is $40.

The fun event is the club's major fundraiser for the year.

There will also be sandcastle building for the kids, barbecue, drinks, prizes and giveaways.
