Mobile black spots targeted in $160M program

CLARENCE Valley residents can now access up-to-date information on the Federal Government's $160 million Mobile Black Spot Program rollout through a new website.

The new Telstra website provides detail on the construction status and timing of each of the 429 new or upgraded mobile base stations being constructed.

"We have four new base stations at Brooms Heads, Hickeys Creek, Minnie Water and Taylors Arm which were selected for funding under round one of the program which will be included in the website progress reports," Member for Cowper Luke Hartsuyker said.

"It will include specific construction and activation information on these North Coast mobile phone towers, which will be regularly updated.

"I developed the Mobile Black Spot Program when the Coalition was in opposition, and it is great to see real progress, with this program continuing to make a difference in regional Australia.

"The Coalition Government is determined to boost mobile phone coverage across regional and rural Australia, and the Mobile Black Spot Program is an ongoing demonstration of that commitment."

The launch of the new website follows the government's announcement of the first 78 mobile base stations funded under round one of the program, scheduled to be activated by the end of June.

Round one will see more than $385 million invested to improve mobile phone services in rural and regional Australia through new and upgraded towers.

The government has committed an additional $60 million for round two of the program, with the selection process launched on February 26.

The locations of new or upgraded base stations to be funded under round two are expected to be announced by the end the year.

Telstra's new mobile blackspot website is available on their website.
