Top dogs set for Grafton challenge

THE cream has risen to the top with a quality field set to contest the final of the Gillespie Plumbing Blue Paws series over 407 metres at the Grafton Greyhound Raceway today.

Queensland trainer Tricia Fuller starred last week with her charges Star Bomber (23.17 seconds) and Jump In (23.20sec) qualifying while John Preston also made the final with a strong second.

Ironically, the three littermates have been drawn alongside each other in boxes 5, 6 and 7.

Perhaps the hardest to beat could be the Mathew Reid-trained Monkey Harris who possesses genuine acceleration and has been drawn in box 4.

He should be able to hold the outside brigade out and looks likely to add the $1,220 winner’s purse to his kitty.

Also on the program are four heats of the Bimbimbi Caravan Park 1-3 Wins (407m).

Heat 1 looks good on paper with the Bob Huntington-trained Tax Man from box 6 and the John Free-prepared Fire Dancer in box 8 among the early favourites.

Tax Man is coming off a first-up 23.28sec victory here last week while Fire Dancer is somewhat of a track specialist.

Fire Dancer has been placed only once in four starts at outside tracks but has recorded the smart time of 23.14sec at Grafton.

In Heat 2 Sammy’s Tears will return to her favourite hunting ground with her two wins here in 23.14 and 23.16sec.

Trained by Neil Falls, Sammy’s Tears is beautifully drawn out in box 7 but inside runners Rich Accent and All The Smarties are expected to provide stiff opposition.

The third heat looks tricky with Rich Harmony a likely favourite for Rick Godwin based on her consistent form however Somebody’s Crying, Ten In Ten, Agent Oso and Late Debate have chances.

The fourth heat and final race of the day contains the best bet with the Mick Patterson-trained Stand Tall likely to send favourite backers home happy.

Stand Tall has recorded a fast 23.07sec here.

Following on from the TAB C debut last Thursday, the committee of the Grafton Club is offering free entry to racegoers.
