More than a Phat Chance

LOVE it or hate it, Aussie hip hop is taking over the airwaves.

It's been coming for a long time, and it looks like it'll outlast dubstep, electro house, and even One Direction.

The Plantation Hotel is hosting an impressive line up of up and coming talent on April 27, led by a name that will be familiar.

For past five years Chance Waters has been building up a reputation as a hip hop lyricist of note, under the name Phat Chance.

His debut album Inkstains, 2009, followed airplay on Triple J and support slots for names like De La Soul, Method Man & Redman.

Chance has sinced drop the 'Phat', but he continues to be a wordy, moody artist with his latest release, Infinity.

The track is very much in the Aussie hip hop mold, with melodic soundscapes, intelligent rhymes and solid beats.

With a new album in the works, and 14,000 Youtube views for the new track, barely a month old, Chance is touring the East Coast.

Local lads Mid North Collaboration will also be taking to the stage on April 27, complete with regional rhymes and heartfelt tunes.

If you haven't seen them, now's the time.

The April 27 gig also features DJ Thortz and Ran MC - an epic line up of storytellers.
