Mourinho’s Cup runneth over after big wins

IT turned out to be a special day for Jose Mourinho, the Chelsea manager claiming his first trophy since returning to the club at the start of last season, and his team's title hopes being boosted by Manchester City's 2-1 loss to Liverpool.

Chelsea's 2-0 win over Tottenham in the League Cup final was the third time the Blues had won that tournament under Mourinho - the others coming during his previous reign in 2004-05 and 2006-07.

John Terry (pictured) and Diego Costa scored the goals - both helped by deflections - either side of half-time as Tottenham's hopes of repeating its Cup win against its cross-city rivals in 2008 evaporated.

Liverpool's win meant Chelsea kept its five-point lead at the top of the standings, with a game in hand, while Arsenal beat Everton 2-0 to stay third. In tomorrow morning's EPL games, Aston Villa hosts West Brom, Hull is at home to Sunderland and Southampton hosts Crystal Palace.
