MOVIE REVIEW: The Accountant sums up well

CHRISTIAN Wolff is a mathematics genius with more affinity for numbers than people.

Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organisations.

With the Treasury Department's Crime Enforcement Division starting to close in, Wolff takes on a legitimate client: a robotics company where an accounting clerk has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars.

But as Wolff 'uncooks' the books and gets closer to the truth, the body count starts to rise.

I will not give anything away by saying that Christian Wolfe lives in the spectrum of autism, as it's heavily hinted he lives with Asperger's Syndrome.

Trying to help him survive a future of bullying and abuse, his father, a member of the US Army, pushes young Christian and his brother in a brutal and violent upbringing.

So in this film, Ben Affleck portrayal of Wolff is quite similar to his rendition of Batman: a wealthy, sometimes violent man with socialising issues but undeniably brilliant who battles the demons from his past by mingling with shady characters and becoming a vigilante in the shadows.

This film's script is fantastic and the direction smart, but I was disappointed by Affleck's portrayal of Wolff.

Compared with Drax, the alien warrior from 2014s Guardians of the Galaxy portrayed by former wrestler Dave Bautista, whoclearly exhibits traits of being in the spectrum, Affleck's Wolff lacks depth.

It's almost like Affleck is playing two characters, as he is unable to portray a person in the spectrum that is also an action hero. Plus, he is also unable to find the right chemistry with Kendrik's character.

The Accountant is the unexpected and clever story of an uncommon hero.
