MP's told: Get on with highway fix

THOUGH neither side is giving a millimetre in the debate over the Pacific Hwy upgrade funding, the continued pressure applied by members of the public has at least kept the debate alive at State and Federal levels.

Yesterday, The Daily Examiner sent emails to every member of the NSW Parliament, calling on them to increase efforts to fund the Pacific Hwy as a matter of urgency.

The email included a link to The Daily Examiner's online video where dozens of locals implored governments to "Fix the Pacific Hwy - No Excuses".

We also asked that Member for Page Janelle Saffin pass the email on to her Federal colleagues.

Late yesterday in the NSW Lower House, Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser put forward a priority motion: "that the house recognises that the NSW Government is getting on with the job of funding Pacific Hwy upgrades and condemn the Federal Government for reneging on the agreed 80:20 funding split."

Mr Fraser called on the Federal Government to acknowledge the Pacific was a national highway and fund it accordingly.
