My School website missing info

INDIVIDUAL students were at risk of being identified if some small schools’ NAPLAN scores were published on the My School Website, the website administrator said this week.

Several schools looked up for The Daily Examiner’s NAPLAN results graph, published last week, did not have their results listed.

These included Baryulgil Public School, Cowper Public School, Nymboida Public School, Woodford Dale Public School and Pacific Hills Christian School, Townsend.

Each of these schools had enrolments lower than 31, one as low as 10 students, at the time the website information was gathered.

The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), which administers the My School site, issued a statement.

‘Rules have been adopted to suppress the publication of information in situations where it could result in the identification of individual students.’

A teacher from one school said the sample sizes at his school were so small that an average would not be an accurate gauge.
