Nathalie breaks personal best to claim silver at nationals

ATHELTICS: Brooms Head sprinter Nathalie Avery is like lightning on the track and she proved it again recently at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships.

The 13-year-old qualified for the national event after running a then-personal best 13 seconds flat at the NSW championships.

But that record did not last long for the sprinter when she eclipsed it in the first heat of the Under-14s 100m event at the national competition.

Avery finished the 100m heat in 12.79s which was a new personal best for the sprinter.

That was until the final, when Avery blitzed her best to finish the race in 12.57s to claim the silver medal.

She then backed up her efforts on the individual front to contribute as part of the NSW Under 14 4x100m relay team.

The team qualified for the final and finished with another silver medal for the champion sprinter.

"I was pretty stoked," Avery said. "It was awesome to come back with a new PB time.

"All the events run you down a bit but in the end it is worth it.

"You get to experience new things, you get to make new friends and I got medals out of it too."

Avery now heads into the off-season with a goal to only get faster for next year.
