GRAFTON galloper Nautile's campaign to have a crack at the $100,000 Grafton heat of the Country Championship has come down to the final race at Grafton today.

Trainer Wayne Lawson has set the four-year-old gelding for the heat on March 20, but has run foul of the recent wet weather in the Jacaranda City.

The top two in that race qualify for the $300,000 Country Championships at Royal Randwick on April 4.

THE Country Championships are restricted to horses Class 5 and below that have had fewer than 21 race starts before contesting the qualifying race.

This means just five starters - Voltaire Lumiere, Brilliant Poet, Farewell Julia, Nautile and Kestera Star - from today's Class 4 Country Championships Preview (1420m) would be eligible to run in Grafton's heat on March 20.
