NBN rolls out to 230 local residents, with more on the way

THE NBN rollout is getting a roll-on in Rockhampton.

An NBN Co spokesperson said there were seven greenfield fibre estates in service in the Rockhampton area, which would allow more than 230 residents to connect to the network.

"There are also additional developer applications in the pipeline covering over 1200 premises," he said.

"Further to this, fixed wireless technology is already active and available in Rockhampton.

Six areas around Gracemere North, Alton Downs, Etna Creek, Ridgelands, Glenlee, Kawana, Bouldercombe, Fairy Bower and Pink Lily are in service."

The spokesperson said fixed wireless currently covered about 1400 premises, meaning everyone in the areas could update to high-speed broadband.

NBN Co is completing a 60-day strategic review of the service, with the findings to be presented to Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull in December.

Capricornia MP Michelle Landry plans to organise a meeting between the region's key players and NBN Co's community relations manager for Queensland, after the review is complete.
