NAVIGATING through pregnancy can be a minefield of anxiety mixed with excitement and unanswered questions for many fathers-to-be.

Trying to be there for their pregnant partner and preparing to be a father can be challenging.

Mackay father of two Ross McNichol said any support or direction a father-to-be could get would be welcomed and beneficial.

"Even dads like myself could probably take a fair bit of support," he said.

A new Raising Children Network website called Dads' Guide to Pregnancy has been launched recently to help prepare men for fatherhood and what to expect during pregnancy.

"It never is easy to know what to expect," Mr McNichol said.

"Every situation is different. We're a blended family and that puts a whole new spin on it."

While there are plenty of books out there, like the well-known What to Expect When You're Expecting, this website was written for dads, with dads, by experts who are dads.

Australian fathers were asked what information they had wanted to know when their partners were pregnant to make the website.

With information on the different stages of pregnancy, home safety, looking after yourself, postnatal depression and relationship advice, the website covers many bases new dads might not be comfortable asking about.

While fatherhood came naturally to Mr McNichol, he said he welcomed the website, admitting it was an overwhelming time.

"If there's someone that has questions, I'd be keen to have a look at it myself," he said.
