Aussie Olympians to be banned from drinking in village

AUSTRALIAN athletes and team officials will have to comply with strict new standards of conduct at future Olympic Games.

The AOC has released guidelines that ban team members and officials from drinking alcohol in the team village or on the charter flight back to Australia.

The crackdown follows a review after the London Olympics.

It found that members of the swim team (pictured) had broken team rules in relation to the use of alcohol and prescription drugs, were involved in bullying and had broken curfews.

Under the new rules, athletes or officials can be kicked out of the team village if they are: being disorderly, argumentative, bad tempered or aggressive; using offensive language; swaying, staggering or falling down; using speech that is loud and boisterous; having rambling conversations; having difficulty in paying attention or comprehending others, or annoying fellow team members and others.
