New bridge over Sportsman’s Creek at Lawrence is planned

IT'S been a long wait for Lawrence residents to get a new bridge over Sportsman's Creek, but now there is hope a new structure will be completed by the end of 2016.

Owner of the Lawrence Tavern Sally Hoy said the old wooden bridge was listed by the former Labor State government as historically significant.

But when the Coalition took power the heritage listing was swept away.

Roads and Maritime Services has completed the first phase of community consultation, on where the bridge should go.

Clarence MP Chris Gulaptis said the feedback from the community was a crucial step in the planning process.

"Keeping the community involved ensures the final design takes into account the wider impact on surrounding roads, land use, local businesses and residents," he said.

"The existing Sportsman's Creek Bridge is proposed to be removed and replaced with a new bridge which meets traffic demands into the future."
