New characters spice up life on House Husbands

THE struggles and joys of modern family life continue to provide rich storylines for House Husbands.

The fourth season of the Logie Award-winning drama returned to our screens this week.

Following the birth of their daughter last season, Mark and Abi are walking the tightrope of work, marriage and raising a toddler.

"Abi's journey has always been and will always be trying to find that work-life balance," actor Natalie Saleeba tells The Guide.

"She's fairly over-extended most of the time with work and trying to be everything to everyone; that's her struggle. I don't think that's anything new for most women."

Speaking of women, there are three new additions to the cast this year.

Justine Clarke joins the cast playing Eve, a hot-headed tuckshop lady and rival to Kane's (Gyton Grantley) catering business.

Indiana Evans plays Tash, a single mother new to Melbourne who ignites a tumultuous love triangle, and Jane Kennedy plays Belinda, the officious and cut-throat director of the hospital where Abi works.

"It's just been so lovely having them on set," she says. "It's a bit boy-heavy most of the time so to have such nice women (join the cast) has been great."

While Mark and Abi are sure to have their trials, Saleeba says it's a mostly light-hearted time for the couple.

"Ellie Beaumont and Drew Proffitt quite enjoy writing the comedy strands for Abi and Mark and that has continued into this series," she says.

"They joke about how in each series I have an 'episode five', which is my dramatic storyline, and then I get it out and the rest of the time it's light comedy."

During her break between filming seasons three and four, Saleeba acted in the upcoming film Truth alongside Cate Blanchett, Robert Redford, Dennis Quaid, Elizabeth Moss and Topher Grace.

"It was like being in an acting master class," she says.

"It was definitely the highlight of my career, apart from House Husbands."

House Husbands airs Monday at 8.40pm on Channel 9/WIN.
